Luxembourgish edit

Pronunciation edit

Etymology 1 edit

From rebracketing of Néierchen, diminutive of Néier, archaic form of Nier (kidney). Perhaps reinforced by association with etymology 2 because kidneys may look like little ears. The neuter gender is secondary and due to the normal plural use. Compare German Nierchen (kidney as food).

Noun edit

Éierchen n (plural Éiercher)
