Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ˈoɾale/ [ˈo.ɾa.le]
  • Rhymes: -oɾale
  • Syllabification: ó‧ra‧le

Etymology 1 edit

From ora, aphetic form of ahora + le. Some other Mexican Spanish exclamations used to exhort are proparoxytone imperative forms ending with -le (ándale, apúrale, córrele, etc.).

Unrelated to the imperative órale (pray!; say!) (Etymology 2), though perhaps influenced by it due to folk etymology.

Interjection edit

  1. (Mexico) let's go, come on, hurry (used to exhort)
  2. (Mexico) oh my God, wow, whoa (indicates amazement, astonishment, excitement, surprise, shock, fear)
  3. (Mexico) yes, ok, alright (indicates approbation)
