Etymology edit

From Proto-Vietic *taŋʔ (bitter), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kt₂aŋ (bitter); cognates include Bahnar tăng (bitter), Pacoh atáng (bitter), Khasi kthang (bitter), Bolyu tɕaŋ⁵³ and Mon က္တၚ် (kətɛŋ, bitter).
