From Ottoman Turkish شرقی (şarkı).
Viewpoint to the etymology of this word is that it evolved from Turkish çağırgı, from the root çağır- ("to call, to shout, to call out, to sing") which is first attested in 1665 as "A piece of music with a jolly and mild chorus".
