A ligature, initially of the Greek letters omicron and upsilon, but subsequently used as a ligature of Latin o and u.

ȣ (upper Ȣ)

(Masta orthography) A letter of the Abenaki alphabet, written in the Latin script.

Because this letter does not appear on most keyboards, the numeral 8 is often used instead, for example in the online Western Abenaki Dictionary and the website of the Cowasuck band of the Pennacook-Abenaki people.
In the other commonly used orthography, this vowel is written as ô.
