Byzantine Greek ἀψιθία (apsithía) with synizesis of /ia/ to avoid hiatus, from Koine Greek ἀψινθία f (apsinthía) with similation of [nθ] > [θθ] and simplification {{nobr|[[θθ] > [θ]}}.[1][2] Also see ἀψίνθιον (apsínthion).
