Ancient Greek edit

Etymology edit

The suffix is similar to γλαυκός (glaukós), σαυκός (saukós), φολκός (pholkós). According to Beekes, it is probably a Pre-Greek adjective. It is uncertain whether the gloss βαυκίδες (baukídes, woman's shoes) belongs to this word.
