editLearned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἐπικοινωνία (epikoinōnía, “mutual relationship”), with semantic loan from French communication.[1] The Ancient Greek word is from ἐπικοινωνός (epikoinōnós) + -ία (-ía), from ἐπι- (epi-, “on, upon”) + κοινωνός (koinōnós, “companion, partner”), from κοινός (koinós, “common; shared”).[2]
