Etymology edit

Inherited from an unattested Byzantine Greek blend of θώς (thṓs, jackal) +‎ ἀλώπηξ (alṓpēx, fox). Old Armenian թեպեկ (tʻepek), թոբէկ (tʻobēk) is borrowed from the same source.
