Borrowed from Italian bagno, from Vulgar Latin *baneum, from Latin balneum, from Ancient Greek βαλανεῖον (balaneîon).

1. bath (act of bathing)

   Μετά το μπάνιο χαλάρωσα πολύ.

   He went into the bathroom an hour ago. What could he possibly be doing?

   Could I possibly use your bathroom?

4. (figuratively) swim (instance of swimming or bathing, usually in the sea)

   Πόσα μπάνια έκανες το καλοκαίρι;

   Pósa bánia ékanes to kalokaíri?

   How many swims did you go for in the summer?

   Κάθε πρωί χαράματα πάνε οι γέροι για μπάνιο επειδή δεν κάνει πολύ ζέστη.

   Káthe proḯ charámata páne oi géroi gia bánio epeidí den kánei polý zésti.

   Old people go for a bathe every morning at daybreak because it isn't too warm.
