σιφλός
Ancient Greek
editEtymology
editThe word shares the formation with τυφλός (tuphlós, “blind”) and χωλός (khōlós, “lame”). Besides this word, there are also σιφνός (siphnós, “empty, void”) and σιπαλός (sipalós, “blinded; maimed”). Because of the variants σιφλ-/σιφν-/σιπαλ-, the word is probably of Pre-Greek origin.
