Etymology edit

Usually derived from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kel- (to curve, bend), like σκέλος (skélos, leg) and σκολιός (skoliós, bent, crooked). The suffix "-ηκ-" is also found in σφήξ (sphḗx, wasp) and μύρμηξ (múrmēx, ant).
