σοφίτα
Greek edit
Etymology edit
Borrowed from French soffite (“soffit”), from Italian soffitto, from Vulgar Latin *suffīctus, perfect passive participle of Latin suffīgō (“to fasten or fix onto”).
Noun edit
σοφίτα • (sofíta) f (plural σοφίτες)
- attic (space, often unfinished and with sloped walls, directly below the roof)
Usage notes edit
- The meaning has changed from the French word from which the Greek was derived. The French term has the same meaning as the English (soffit).
