σφένδαμνος

Etymology edit

The formation is similar to δίκταμνον (díktamnon) and ὀρόδαμνος (oródamnos). Often connected to σφενδόνη (sphendónē, sling), either through a meaning "trembling" or after the form of the seeds. However, the word is probably Pre-Greek.
