Ancient Greek edit

Etymology edit

Unexplained. Some connect the glosses ἀφικτόν (aphiktón, repugnant, detestable) and ἀφικτρός (aphiktrós, stained, defiled). Φοῖβος (Phoîbos) has nothing to do with Φόβος (Phóbos). Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *bʰoygʷ-o-, from *bʰeygʷ- (to shine, clear).

Pronunciation edit

Adjective edit

φοῖβος (phoîbosm (feminine φοίβη, neuter φοῖβον); first/second declension
