Borrowed from Middle Russian Ꙗ҆́кꙋцкои҆ m (Ja҆́kuckoi҆), ellipsis of Ꙗ҆́кꙋцкои҆ острогъ (Ja҆́kuckoi҆ ostrog, “Yakutsk Fort”), see Russian якут (jakut) for further etymology.
