Kabardian edit

Etymology edit

Probably formed as лъэ (lˢɛ, foot) +‎ *гъуэ (*ğʷɛ, road), the latter found inside гъуэ-гу (ğʷɛ-gʷu). Cognate with Adyghe лъагъо (lˢağʷo).

Abkhaz а-ҭлаҩа (a-tlajʷa), Abaza тлагӏва (tˡaʻʷa) are Circassian borrowings. The Abkhaz alago (footpath), found only in Erckert,[1] is likewise considered a Circassian borrowing.[2]

The nature of relationship with Old Georgian ალაგი (alagi, trail, road, way) is uncertain.

  1. trail, track, path
