From Proto-Slavic *stьza, Slavic cognates include Russan стезя, Slovene steza (“path, walk”) (absent in Bulgarian), non-Slavic ones: Lithuanian stiga, Ancient Greek στίχος (stikhos), Gothic 𐍃𐍄𐌰𐌹𐌲𐌰 (stáiga, “way”), German Steg (“footbridge, gangplank”).
