Etymology edit

Inherited from Old East Slavic стукъ (stukŭ), from Proto-Slavic *stukъ, from *(s)tewk- (to push; hit). Cognate with Ukrainian стук (stuk), Polish stuk, Serbian Church Slavonic стукъ (stukŭ, sound). Onomatopoeic in origin; see сту́кать (stúkatʹ) for further info.
