Cognate with Khakas хомыс (xomıs); Shor қомус, Tofa һобус ; Yakut хомус (qomus, mouth harp), хамыс (qamıs); Southern Altai комус (komus, mouth harp), комыс (komïs); Kazakh қобыз (qobyz, a string instrument) / قوبىز; Bashkir ҡумыҙ (qumıź); Tatar кубыз (qubız); etc. Compare also Mongolian ховс (xovs), ховис (xovis).
