From Proto-Slavic *ǫgъlъ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂engulos (joint?). Cognates include Sanskrit अङ्गुरि (aṅgúri, finger, toe), Old Irish ekkja, Old High German enchil (ankle, joint) and Latin angulus (corner, angle).
