Etymology edit

Likely borrowed from an unidentified Iranian name containing a reflex of Proto-Iranian *tr̥ŝáti (to tremble with fear) and the Iranian hypocoristic suffix -ič. Compare especially Parthian 𐫤𐫡𐫘 𐫏𐫉𐫅𐫀𐫗 (trs yzdʾn /Tars-yazdān/, a male given name, literally fearing god), Classical Syriac ܡܝܗܪܛܪܣ (myhrṭrs /Mihr-Tars/, a male given name from Iranian, literally full of respect for Mithra), and Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (tlsʾk' /tarsāg/, Christian, literally (God) fearer) (Persian ترسا (tarsâ)).
