An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾzg /⁠azg⁠/, branch), Central Kurdish, Southern Kurdish ھەژگ (hejg, dried tree branch), Persian آزغ (âzğ, a thing lopped (as vine-prunings); slip, cutting, scion). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hádᶻgas.
