Old Armenian edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-European *bʰéh₂ti.[1][2][3][4]

Verb edit

բամ (bam)

  1. to speak, to say

Usage notes edit

  • Only the forms shown in the conjugation table have survived in the competition with the verb ասեմ (asem), and these forms too are only rarely attested independently as verbs: usually they appear together with ասեմ (asem) as conjunctions.
  • The forms բամ (bam, I say), բաս (bas, you say), բայ (bay, he says) and the imperative բա (ba, say!) are used as conjunctions with the meaning of “that”, e.g. ասաց բայ գայ եւ ահա եկն (asacʻ bay gay ew aha ekn, he said that he will come and he came).
