Etymology edit

NHB identifies with ընդոստ (əndost, leaping out, jumping out), from ընդ (ənd) + ոստնում (ostnum, to leap, jump).

This is rejected by Ačaṙean because of semantics, who derives ըմբոստ (əmbost) from ընդ (ənd) +‎ *բոստ (*bost), the latter unattested component presumably inherited from Proto-Indo-European *bʰos-ti-, from *bʰos- (to sally forth, barge, hurtle out). For the cognates see *bystrъ.
