Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *ǵoi-ǵar-n-, reduplication of *ǵār- (“voice, exclamation”). Cognate with Ossetian зар (“song”), Ancient Greek γῆρυς (“voice”), Latin garrio (“to chatter”), Old English cearu (English care).
