      From Proto-Indo-European *ǵoi-ǵar-n-, reduplication of *ǵār- (voice, exclamation). Cognate with Ossetian зар (song), Ancient Greek γῆρυς (voice), Latin garrio (to chatter), Old English cearu (English care).
