Etymology edit

The root is կալ- (kal-), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷw-əl-, from *gʷew- (to bend). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἐγ-γυαλίζω (eg-gualízō, put into the palm of the hand) and Latin vola (palm).

  1. to take, to lay hold of, to seize; to arrest
  2. to subjugate, to rule over
  3. to succeed

This verb fills part of the conjugation of ունիմ (unim, to have).
