Etymology

Probably from Proto-Indo-European *gʷh₂-ti-, from *gʷeh₂- (“to come, step”), whence կամ (kam). Compare also Proto-Indo-European *gʷémtis.

կայ • (kay)

1. standing (still), standing place, station, site

   զկայ առնուլ ― zkay aṙnul ― to stop, to pause, to halt, to rest, to cease

   կալ յուղիղ կայի ― kal yułił kayi ― to remain in uprightness

   ոչ լինիցի կայ թաթից ոտից քոյ ― očʻ linicʻi kay tʻatʻicʻ oticʻ kʻoy ― neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest

   կա՛ց ի կայի քում ― kácʻ i kayi kʻum ― stand upright!
