Etymology edit

Reduplication of *յողդ (*yołd), which Martirosyan tentatively derives from Proto-Indo-European *h₁en-kʷolh₁-dʰ-, composed of the prefix *h₁en- (in) (whence յ- (y-)), *kʷolh₁- and the old present infix *-dʰ-; cognate with Ancient Greek πέλω (pélō), Sanskrit चरति (cárati).
