From the name of the Greek tribe of Ionians. Compare Ancient Greek Ἴων (Íōn), Old Persian 𐎹𐎢𐎴 (y-u-n /⁠yauna⁠/), Hebrew יוון (yawan), Arabic يُونَان (yūnān). See also Names of the Greeks.

      Յայնմ ժամանակի առաքեցին ի մեծ նախարարաց անտի աւագանին Հայոց հանդերձ պատարագօք առ թագաւորն Յունաց, զի ի նա ձեռս տուեալ` ծառայեսցեն նմա հնազանդութեամբ, եւ լինիցի նա նոցա թիկունք օգնականութեան՝ խնդրել վրէժս ի թշնամեաց նոցա։
      Yaynm žamanaki aṙakʻecʻin i mec naxararacʻ anti awaganin Hayocʻ handerj pataragōkʻ aṙ tʻagaworn Yunacʻ, zi i na jeṙs tueal` caṙayescʻen nma hnazandutʻeamb, ew linicʻi na nocʻa tʻikunkʻ ōgnakanutʻean, xndrel vrēžs i tʻšnameacʻ nocʻa.

        At that time the Armenian nobility sent some of the great *naχarars with gifts to the king of the Greeks [to say that] they gave him their hand [and that] they would serve him obediently were he to support them with aid to obtain revenge from their enemies.
