Etymology edit

By assimilation from earlier *պատսաճ (*patsač), borrowed from a Middle Iranian word of the shape patsāč-, composed of *pati- (a preverb) and *cāčáyati (to prepare, make ready).

For the ս...ճ (s...č) assimilation to շ...ճ (š...č) compare աստիճան (astičan)աշտիճան (aštičan), սոճի (soči)շոճի (šoči), աստուճ (astuč)աշտուճ (aštuč).
