From Proto-Indo-European *pʰōl-. Cognate with Lithuanian pùlti (“to attack, rush”), Old English feallan (English fall) and perhaps Ancient Greek σφάλλω (sphállō, “bring down, destroy, cause to stumble, deceive”).
