Etymology edit

The original spelling is աւրհնեմ (awrhnem), by metathesis from earlier աւհրնեմ (awhrnem), from *աւհրինեմ (*awhrinem), from Middle Iranian *āfrīnam, from Proto-Iranian *aHfriHnáHti. Aghwan 𐔰𐕔𐕙𐔴 (afre) is from the same source.

  3. to bless, to shower down or bestow blessings on, to consecrate

  4. (ironically) to curse, to blaspheme
