Etymology edit

Western Middle Iranian *āp-šēnag, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *āp- + *xšaina‬‬- + *-ka-. For the first component, compare Old Persian [Term?] (/⁠‫‪āpi‬‬⁠/, water). For the second component, compare Old Persian [Term?] (/⁠‫‪axšaina‬‬-⁠/, dark blue), Old Persian *xšaina‬‬- (shiny)

Literally meaning "where the water shines". The place is located on the foot of the northern valleys of Alvand mountains.
