From Arabic اَلْبارِح (al-bāriḥ, “last night”), with the -l- of the article assimilated to the b-. Compare Moroccan Arabic البارح (el-bāreḥ), South Levantine Arabic مبارح (mbāreḥ), Maltese lbieraħ.
