From Middle Persian [script needed] (bwlc /⁠burz⁠/, high), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰerǵʰ-. Akin to Parthian 𐫁𐫇𐫡𐫉 (bwrz /⁠burz⁠/, high, lofty) and Old Georgian ბორცჳ (borcwi, hill), an Iranian borrowing.
