- الأخفش الأصغر: علي بن سليمان بن الفضل النحوي، أبو الحسن، من نحاة القرن الرابع، كان ابن الرومي يكثر من هجائه، وكان يعيش ضيق الحال حتى أكل نبات الثلجم (السلجم) النىء، فقبض على قلبه فمات
- The grammarian al-ʔAḥfaš al-ʔAṣḡar reported upon Ibn ar-Rūmī concerning the linguistic manners of the fourth Islamic century that he acted out his spelling much and he lived in a state of embarrassment when he ate the turnip plant raw and it seized his heart and he died.
