Etymology edit
Literally: “the party of God”, after Quran 5:56: فَإنَّ حِزْبَ اللهِ هُمُ الْغالِبُون (faʔinna ḥizba llāhi humu l-ḡālibūn, “the party of God [i.e. those who side with God] are victorious”). Shiites interpret this verse as referring to the Twelve Imams and those who support them.
