- plural of صَلَوٰة (ṣalāh)
609–632 CE, Qur'an, 2:238:حٰفِظُوا عَلَى ٱلصَّلَوَٰتِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ٱلْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلّٰهِ قٰنِتِينَ- ḥāfiẓū ʿalā ṣ-ṣalawāti wa-ṣ-ṣalawāti l-wusṭā wa-qūmū li-llāhi qānitīna
- Preserve your prayers, and [especially] the middle prayer, and stand in obedience to God.
