From Arabic الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّة (al-qusṭanṭīniyya), from Byzantine Greek Κωνσταντινούπολις (Kōnstantinoúpolis, City of Constantine).

  1. (now historical) Synonym of استانبول, Constantinople (the former capital of the Byzantine Empire and Ottoman Empire).
