From the root ق م ح (q-m-ḥ). Cognate with Aramaic קַמְחָא (qamḥā, “flour”), Hebrew קֶמַח (qémaḥ, “flour”), Ge'ez ቀምሕ (ḳämḥ, “vegetables; leguminous plant”), ቀምሐ (ḳämḥä, “to eat upon, to graze”), Ugaritic 𐎖𐎎𐎈 (qmḥ, “flour”).
