Etymology

A compound of Persian گنج (ganj, “treasure”) + ليو (liyǖ, “mud”). Unrelated to كانج (kēnč, “child”).

كانْجْ لِيُو (kēnč liyǖ)

1. a stand for the booty erected at the feasts and banquets of kings that looks like a minaret
