From Prakrit 𑀮𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀺𑀅 (laḍḍia, caressing) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), ultimately from Sanskrit लड् (laḍ, to play). By surface analysis, لاڈ (lāḍ, affection) +‎ ـلا (-lā).
