South Levantine Arabic edit

Etymology edit

Dual of مرحبا (marḥaba), from Arabic مَرْحَبًا (marḥaban), so as to “double” the good wishes received; hence at first used only as a response to the singular form. Compare the same in أهلا (ʔahlan), أهلين (ʔahlēn).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /mar.ħab.teːn/, [mar.ħabˈteːn]
  • (file)

Interjection edit

مرحبتين (marḥabtēn)

  1. dual of مرحبا (marḥaba, hello): response to مرحبا (marḥaba)
