Borrowed from Classical Syriac ܡܰܐܣܪܻܝܩܳܐ (māsārīqā), ܡܰܣܪܻ̈ܝܩܶܐ (masrīqē), ܡܶܗܣܳܐܪܻ̈ܝܩܶܐ (mēsārīqē), from Ancient Greek μεσαραϊκόν (mesaraïkón), from μεσάραιον (mesáraion).
