Usage notes edit

The singular ماعون (māʕūn) which is likely a borrowing from other Arabic varieties appears in the name of some plates signifying "dish of" or "plate of", for example in ماعون مشكل (māʕūn mšakkal, a dish of mixed grilled meats, literally dish of mixed (grills)) and ماعون كباب (māʕūn kabāb).
