First attested as Middle Hindi ٹان٘گ (ṭāṅg) / ٹَن٘گ (ṭaṅg), inherited from Prakrit 𑀝ṁ𑀓 (ṭaṁka), Sanskrit टङ्क (ṭaṅka).
