Etymology edit

From ܓܫܘܫܐ (gāšōšā, spy), from the root ܓ-ܫ-ܫ (ɡ-š-š) related to spying + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯā). Compare Arabic جَاسُوسِيَّة (jāsūsiyya).
