From the root ܬ-ܚ-ܡ (t-ḥ-m) related to limiting or defining. Compare Akkadian 𒋫𒄷𒈬 (/⁠taḫūmu⁠/, boundary, frontier), Arabic تُخْم (tuḵm), and Hebrew תְּחוּם (təḥûm).
