From ܬܠܡܝܕܐ (talmīḏāʾ, disciple), from Akkadian 𒊑𒈪𒁺 (/⁠talmīdu⁠/, apprentice) + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯāʾ).
